Our post-expedition to Centre for Persons with Early Stage Dementia and Younger Onset Dementia

On Wednesday 31 March 2010, one of the post expedition programmes was a visit to the New Horizon Centre for early dementia seniors in Bukit Batok. Daniel, Georgiana, Reynard, Ka Ming, Jing Lin, Jolie, Chek and Valerie spent 3 hours playing table games with about 25 seniors. The visit started with a briefing by the nurse manager, Ms Mary Lim, on what dementia is and on caregiver stress.

At the debrief, we learnt the following:
1. the seniors can be repetitive
2. the seniors can be humourous
3. the seniors can be fierce too :)

The expedition progamme has come full circle from orphanage children to dementia senior citizens. One cannot help but walk away feeling there is a whole lot more to be done ...
